Humus is a space for research and cultural activism that offers innovative professional training in the movement arts.

Where: Bologna, Italy

When: from January to May 2026

Deadline for applications: 30 November 2025

Humus offers innovative professional training in the arts of movement. Our pedagogical approach replaces the logic of performance with that of attention, giving time to the process of learning and transformation.
At the core of our work is the study of the body as a refined relational technology. Through an intensive journey, we offer concrete tools to develop conscious bodily presence, combining physical training, vocal exploration, and self-care practices. The program alternates  structured training and periods dedicated to personal digestion and re-elaboration, culminating in a collective creation guided by an international choreographer.
Humus is designed for dancers, performers, and actors seeking non-academic training, as well as artists from all fields who wish to deepen their expressive language. Our specificity lies in our ability to offer a formative process where each person can find their own way of inhabiting research, supported by an environment that values both rigor and discovery. Humus is based on four complementary practices: the Axis Syllabus, a dynamic repository of information on human movement; Play-Fight, which combines contact dance, capoeira, and martial arts to develop listening and connection; the use of the Voice (spoken and sung) through the Lichtenberger Method®;  the Contact and Perception Practices, which integrate biomechanics, anatomy, and the body’s energetics.
The last week of each months is dedicated to the Emptiness Atelier: a unique feature of Humus’s educational approach, providing dedicated time and space for personal research and artistic development. During these 4 weeks, students process their learning while receiving mentorship, culminating in presentations at the OTOUV showcase. This structure reflects Humus’s commitment to fostering genuine artistic autonomy alongside technical excellence.
To complete the program, a residency with an international artist and two interdisciplinary workshops with public outcome.
