4 Days- Intensive with Thusnelda Mercy at the Frei Art Festival 2025 in Freiburg/Germany.

In this intensive, Thusnelda Mercy invites us to embrace that space of ‘not-knowing’ as a profound source of choreographic inspiration. Drawing from her extensive experience as a dancer and assistant to legendary figures like Pina Bausch and Sasha Waltz, and as co-artistic director of merighi | mercy, Thusnelda has developed a unique set of tools and methods for compositional work, and this workshop is an opportunity to put them into practice.
Through targeted exercises and choreographic tools, we will prepare the body and mind for an open working process. This foundation of technique, clarity, and mindfulness will create a fertile ground for creative exploration. Improvisation tasks will then serve as impulses to dive into our own unique movement landscapes. The focus here is on being present—with the moment, with one another—letting go of pre-conceived answers and instead cultivating a heightened sense of alert presence.
About Thusnelda Mercy:
Thusnelda Mercy was born in Marseille in 1977 and grew up in Wuppertal. After her engagement as a dancer and actress for the Theater der Klänge in Düsseldorf, she continued her dance studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In 2001, she was hired by the choreographer Sasha Waltz and has since been a guest dancer in her productions and a rehearsal director. From 2002 to 2013, she was a permanent member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and a guest dancer until 2019.
