The Sharing open labs are a series of workshops and collective practices led by the resident artists at La Cap. Open and donation based, these labs are designed to foster exchange between artists, participants, and the local community — creating space for experimentation, dialogue, and mutual learning..
La Cap, provides participants the opportunity both to reside on-site and have access to the studio space, allowing these gatherings to foster cross-disciplinary exchange and nurture practices in dialogue and co-habitation with the residents.
Where: La Cap, Via Capacciola 178, Sinalunga (Siena-Tuscany), Italy
When: September 20-21, 2025
Deadline for applications: 15-09-2025
In Behind the WOW!, we dig into the deeper layers of movement by exploring foundational concepts from Breaking and Popping — not just as techniques, but as starting points for choreographic thinking. This workshop invites participants to look beyond form and virtuosity to ask:
– How can movement carry meaning?
– What are the compositional potentials within street styles?
– How can we transition from a battle or community context to performance work without losing authenticity?
Drawing from his own artistic practice — rooted between street and club styles and contemporary choreography — Jonas Frey will share tools for movement deconstruction, translation, and motif development, helping dancers expand their vocabulary while deepening their expressive and conceptual range.
Whether you’re a mover grounded in freestyle traditions or looking to integrate urban influences into your choreographic process, Behind the WOW! offers a space to question, play, and create.
Jonas Frey is a Germany-based choreographer, dancer, and dance educator with roots in Hip Hop and breaking. After studying at ArtEZ School of Dance and completing an MA in Choreography at Codarts/Fontys, he creates works at the intersection of club- and streetdance and contemporary choreography.
His practice is shaped by co-creation, encouraging all collaborators to become co-authors in the process. Jonas’ works are presented in his home base of Mannheim as well as nationally and internationally. Together with Julie Pécard, he directs the Junior Company at EinTanzHaus and co-directs Mpower Urban, a platform for choreographic development in club- and streetstyles. From 2025–26 he will be a resident artist at Theater Freiburg within the Reseau Grand Luxe.
Jonas Frey will be author in residence at La Cap from September 14 to September 27 2025, in order to work on his solo “Copieweg”.
