The Atelier refers to Pau Aran Gimeno’s pedagogical approach, born from a long journey as a professional dancer and an emerging independent creator. It also pays tribute to the workshop as a space for experimentation and artisanal creation.

Where: Nunart, Barcelona

When: From August 4 to 8, Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 1pm

Deadline for applications: August 4th 2025

Description of opportunity:
For me, the dance studio is like a workshop where we learn, practice, and refine our technique/craft, and where we discover a creative identity.

Through my observation of bodies—currently in my work as a choreographer and teacher—I’ve realized that new performers are transforming their relationship with the body and the motivations behind their movement.

My passion is to continue expanding and deepening my perception of the world and sharpening its physical expression through my own body and in collaboration with others. I’ve gathered knowledge from artists such as Pina Bausch, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Malou Airaudo, Cristiane Boullosa, Dominique Mercy, and Francesc Bravo. I want to pass on all these experiences to future generations of dancers.

That’s why I actively seek diverse and frequent encounters with dance and movement artists—to discover new ways of communicating. By creating and developing a shared physical language, we begin to question what we can do individually and collectively, and how this can contribute to a more coherent and sustainable society.

I don’t want to cling to what I’ve learned, but instead find new ways to share it.

I aim to maintain a connection between Western dance techniques of the past—which continue to shape contemporary dance today—and the ongoing development of my work as a dance facilitator. I want to explore my pedagogical and choreographic methods and bring them into mutual exchange.

In my methodology, I propose a practice based on the compositional elements of dance, as taught by dancer, choreographer, and educator Jean Cébron (1927–2019): energy, form, space, and rhythm. The Jooss-Leeder method inspires much of my teaching. Respecting the group’s different needs and circumstances, I focus on breath, repetition, and opposing directional forces. At the end of the training, we arrive at a sequence that incorporates the information studied during the session.
